About the Designer/ Portfolio

Ryan Perala, MNLA certified landscape designer

I have been professionally involved in the landscaping industry since 1993.  Graduating from North Dakota State University in 1997 and having in-the-field experience as an installation foreman, I later achieved  MNLA certification in 1999.  My past employment includes designing for notable companies such as Halla Nursery and Dundee Nursery in the Minneapolis metro area.

Also having attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design, my passion for landscaping integrates the interior with the exterior in a naturally pleasing combination.

Transitioning interior views to the outside, the outdoor living room can expand a person’s space beyond the glass door. Absorbing views from a distance and incorporating them into your own environment can make your landscape seem larger.

Views are so important from the indoors for Minnesotans.  To create interest in a landscape year-round, winter structure is a must.  I call it "the backbone of the design palette.”  If a design has good winter interest, this provides an excellent base for the rest of the design.  Then it's time to add fall colors next, then concentrate on spring and summer components for the explosion of seasonal flora.

‘Living Art’ is how I describe the unique challenges that are inherent in the ever-changing landscape.  The plants and hardscape materials are the paint, the site is the canvas, and I am the artist.  Inspiration from nature is where I get my favorite style of landscape design.

Using CAD, (computer aided design) I work with the client’s desires, needs, and budget.  My experience with diverse landscape styles allow for different options. I take a concept from start to finish and make every project unique and functional.
